State Of Play

State Of Play is a great movie to watch. I just watched it on DVD. The story goes like this:-

A man kills a thief in the middle of the night in Washington DC. A Pizza delivery guy who happens to pass by is shot by the man. The next day, Sonia Baker is killed by a subway train. It looks like a suicide but reporter Cal McAffrey believes there is more than just a suicide attempt. Instincts also tells him that both incidents are connected although it does not look that way on the surface.

Sonia Baker is a lead researcher in Congressman Stephen Collins' staff. He is too distraught by her death that he broke down on national television when announcing her death. Soon, speculations of him having an affair with her is proven when Collins admits about it. Things just gets worse as McAffrey and his colleague, Della Frye work on the story.

The man who killed the two victims shoots the Pizza guy who has just woken up from a coma as Frye intends to gather information from the Pizza guy. Frye realises the man that she meets in the elevator earlier is actually the murderer. McAffrey is almost killed by the muderer too in a separate incident.

Collins reveals to McAffrey about the secret plans that is being done by PointCorp, a private defense contractor with controversial operations involving mercenaries. Later on, he admits hiring the murderer, Corporal Bingham to watch Baker as Collins is suspicious of her, and not to kill her. A key witness, who is a PR executive, working for a subsidiary of PointCorp confesses his involvement with Baker after being blackmailed by McAfrrey. As the show comes to an end, the cops shoot Corporal Bingham before he manages to assassinate McAffrey after McAffrey confronts Collins for the whole truth. In the end, Mcaffrey and Frye successfully type the story and leave the office. The story ends with the printing of the story on the newspaper.

It is interesting as suspense are continuously rising. Conspiracies are built on conspiracies. And just when you think that is the truth, you are wrong....again and again. So, it's a great movie to watch.
